Welcome from Chair Pmaps 2018

News

On behalf of the Organizing Committee, it is my great pleasure to welcome you to Boise, Idaho, for the 2018 International Conference on Probabilistic Methods Applied to Power Systems (PMAPS 2018). The conference is jointly organized by IEEE PES Boise Chapter, Idaho Power, the University of Idaho, and Boise State University.

PMAPS is the leading forum for engineers and scientists worldwide to share and discuss their experience, ideas, and research on probabilistic methods applied to power systems. The theme of PMAPS 2018 is “Probabilistic Methods: Practical Approaches for Managing Risk and Uncertainty in the Electric Power Industry.” A total of 155 papers from 32 countries will be presented at the conference, and 145 reviewers participated in the paper review process.

The plenary session, 7 panel sessions, and 33 paper sessions will provide a platform for attendees to demonstrate their achievements and exchange ideas. A day-long tutorial on June 24 will benefit those who want to acquire basic and advanced knowledge of power system reliability. Last, a technical tour to the century-old Swan Falls Dam and Museum will provide unforgettable memories for conference attendees.

I am pleased that a considerable number of students from different countries have also expressed significant interest in PMAPS fields. To acknowledge and encourage the excellence of students in probabilistic methods applied to power systems, the best student paper will receive the “PMAPS Roy Billinton Student Paper Award.” I want to express my sincere thanks to the authors, paper reviewers, session chairs, organizing committee members, and volunteers for their contributions to making PMAPS 2018 successful. Special thanks go to the board directors of the PMAPS International Society for their guidance. I look forward to meeting you all in Boise.
